KEEPING THE JOY VILLAGE SAFE
COVID-19 has changed the way the world operates. This is no different at our Joy Village that is home to 59 children. The Kenyan government took an aggressive approach to help curb the spread of the virus. Some of the rules that were instituted included lock downs of Kenyan counties, a strict curfew and the call to decongest institutions (i.e. The Joy Village). In April, children that were able to go home needed to be accounted for in their home county and Joy Village has worked to extend services to their guardians.
For the 37 children still within the Joy Village, they are following extreme protocols and locking down the facility to visitors. They have increased sanitation and hand-washing within the Village. Because this situation is so foreign to all of us, the mothers and aunties were given extra training on how to keep the children and themselves well. We are proud to report that no one within the facility has gotten sick.
