Allamano School
Located on the grounds of Nazareth Hospital, the Allamano School is a Christian primary remedial school K-3 serving 76 children of tea-pickers who live-on 500-700 shillings a month - which is equal to less than $2 a day. Since tea-picking is a relatively seasonal business, this money is not even a constant. Through the Allamano School, these children receive a valuable education, specialized attention, and additional school supplies and food to help them succeed.
MEET GEORGE:
Tree of Lives has been involved with the Allamano school for 16 years. George was a senior teacher when he met Jim Wood the current President of Tree of Lives. Since then, George has continued to be one of 3 teachers within the school and has also taken on many other important roles. He currently teaches Math and Science and oversees our scholar program. George is accompanied at the Allamano school by Matrine who teaches religion and social studies and Christina who teaches languages both English and Kiswahili. George is also in charge of the Scholars, which is a Tree of Lives program that allows the children of the Allamano school to continue on to higher levels of school. As of 2020, there are 80 scholars who have left the school and are now continuing their education elsewhere. George works to ensure that they have the personal items they need and that their academic performance is continuing at a high level. He works with the other teachers at the school to keep up with each child and their parents to ensure that these children are given all the tools they need to succeed. At home, George lives with his wife Lydia and their 3 children. His passion for the children and Tree of Lives is unmatched and we feel extremely lucky to have him serving in our ministry.
The Scholar Program for Allamano Students
The Scholars program was created in 2008 to help provide further education for the children of the Allamano school. Without this program, many would pause their education at grade 3 and not continue forward. There are currently 80 scholars who have graduated from the Allamano school and moved on to further their education. In recent years we have been able to extend our commitment with the founding of the Susan Lilly Scholarship - donate now to this scholarship fund. In 2019, every graduate of the Allamano school was able to further their education.

MEET TOMA, an Allamano Scholar
One of six children, Toma is originally from the Nuba Mountain Region in northern Sudan. When war broke out in Sudan, Toma was separated from her family and spent time in a refugee camp in South Sudan. During her time in the Yida Camp, she was able to form relationships with workers from Samaritan Purse and the World Food Program. She requested to get assistance with obtaining further education so that she could help herself, her family, and her community. She came to Kenya in primary school in 2015, where she was able to continue with school thanks to Tree of Lives. In 2018, she joined a high school for girls and is currently studying with the goal of becoming a nurse in the future. She currently lives with a family near Nazareth hospital.
MEET KELVIN, an Allamano Scholar
Kelvin’s education has been supported by Tree of Lives for many years and he is flourishing in secondary school. Even when things were unstable at home, he continued to work hard and put education first. He is currently living completely on his own and supporting himself with rent, food, and other belongings while also staying in school. He is in form three and only has one year left before his secondary exams. After the completion of high school, Kevin hopes to pursue mechanical engineering.
MEET EVERLYNE, an Allamano Scholar
Everlyne joined the Allamano School in 2009 where she studied for 3 years. Her 6 other brothers and sisters were raised in Kiambu County by a single mother. Throughout her childhood, she and her older sisters helped her mother whenever they could to earn extra money. Tree of Lives has supported her throughout her entire school career. In 2016, after doing extremely well on her exams, she was able to move onto Kijabe Girls High School. She continued to do well in school even when things at home were difficult. She is so thankful for the love and support shown throughout and continues to strive for success as she moves through high school.
