World AIDS Day Celebration
World AIDS Day, celebrated on December 1, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Every day, Tree of Lives makes a difference by creating and supporting programs that strengthen the African family in our shared battle against HIV/AIDS and poverty.
This year, Tree of Lives’ partner Nazareth Hospital was engaged with the government of Kiambu County, Kenya and the National AIDS Control Council in planning the World AIDS Day celebration. Peter Njenga and Teresia Wairimu, peer mentors from the Holy Family Center (HFC), Nazareth’s HIV/AIDS clinic, were honored as Kiambu County Youth Ambassadors at the event. Peter and Teresia were also selected to present a skit at the celebration. The event was attended by the Kiambu County First Lady and top health officials.
