BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED
The teen mentor program at The Holy Family Center provides education, drug and nutrition support, and fellowship for HIV/AIDS teenagers. With all of the stress and changes that came about with the pandemic the Holy Family Center counselors needed to get creative to continue reaching the youth involved with the Holy Family Center. One activity that the counselors saw the youth craved was physical activity that taught life skills while doing it.
The #farmingiscool program bloomed during the pandemic. The adolescents worked the gardens, sowed seed and even pulled weeds. It was empowering for them to see the permanent accomplishment of the farm work and its positive impact on their lives. Not only were their life lessons learned, but the students saw first-hand the fruit of their labor.
