MOTHER TO MOTHER CELEBRATIONS

Without intervention, there is a 15-45% chance that a HIV+ mother will transmit the disease to her child during pregnancy, labor, delivery or breastfeeding. However, with small amounts of intervention, this rate can be reduced to below 5%. That is what our Mother-to-Mother program through Tree of Lives is designed to do. Over the past 7 years the program, which is operated on the ground by the Holy Family Center in Kenya, has had a 0% transmission rate from HIV+ mothers to their children. That’s a 100% success rate!

Recently, one of the moms who completed the Mother to Mother program returned to bring a cake to thank the mentor mothers and the Holy Family Center team for all of the support she received during her two year journey. It was a beautiful moment to pray and thank God for her baby, other babies in the program and the team - and of course to share some cake!
